Kathy,

Sounds like we need to put your hubby and mine in the same house and you and I go on vacation. lol Mine is falling apart also. We are suppose to go to Branson in Nov. You will have to tell me where we should go when you get back. The cruise I bought at a really good deal ended up being a not so good deal. Because it was a "promtional" company could not get a room without paying for an upgrade which defeats the purpose of getting a good deal.So they "gave" us a bonus trip which happen to be Branson for 5 days but we have to listen to a presentation. We will see....................

Have fun, it will be nice just to get away for a while.

Your loved!

Lynnette

Kathy,

Question for you.  My hubby also has bulging disks - just found out in the past couple of months. The doc also said it looks like they are pinching a nerve?? Due to work schedules, he's not been able to get to the doc who is supposed to be able to help him.  What do they do for that?  Any info you can give would be great!

Have fun on your vaca.  I went to Branson years ago (back before it was really popular) with my parents.  We had a BLAST!!  I've heard it's changed a lot since then.  Not for the better according to my Mom - but it sounds better to me.  As in there is now TONS of stuff to do there.  Anyway...ENJOY!!!

Hello Susan, I had pm'd you before I read your post. The bulging disks are not good. He did rounds of physical therapy. That did not help at all. Of course he is doing the vicodine, inflammatory meds too. They aren't even touching his pain. Poor thing. He is never one to complain or whine. But, he is really hurting to the point where he can't function. I think the next step is to do shots in that area. Sorta like a pain management thing. I have talked to many people and have worked in the medical field for years and you hear more horror stories than successful stories about people having back surgery and coming out better than when they went in. I have a friend whom is on her 5th back surgery. She is in more pain now than when she started. The myth of it being all about being over weight when you have back issues is not true. My girlfriend is a bean pole and has the major back problem's. (ofcourse my hubby's weight is probably not helping, but, not the main cause). Anyone of any size can have back issues. I just hate to see him so much pain.
Lynnette, Yes we do need to go on a vacation together. I like Stephanies ideas. CRUISE..
I went to Branson years ago. Just Kassy and I. We had a great time. Their are things for everyone to do there.. From camping, outdoor things, shows, amusement parks.. you name it.. it is there..

Kathy,

Last time I had a bulging disk the only thing that worked was a good chiropractor.

Kathy,

Thanks for the info.  BTDT with the vicodin and anti inflammatory meds.  NOT helping. Lemme tell ya, he's not a fun person to be around when he's on meds.  They make him really grumpy and difficult to be around.  Even antibiotics do it to him!!  I'm a happy happy girl on vicodin.  Makes me wonder what's wrong with him that it makes him so grumpy.  LOL

The PCP mentioned the following progression to him:  PT, cortisone shots and then surgery.  Like your friend, my hubby is a bean pole.  Got all freaked out when he weighed 150 at his PT weigh in a few weeks ago.  That's the MOST he's ever weighed in his entire life...and the man is 5'11"!!!  Talk about tall and skinny!!

Anyway, thanks for the info.  It gives me an idea of what he's going to hear when he finally gets to go to ortho.  I'm hoping they will start with PT.  I need to check into our benefits for chiro (thanks Lynnette) since he's active duty.  Hoping they will pay something on it if the other stuff doesn't help.

I keep trying to take Alissa to Branson due to the sheer number of things you can do there at a very low cost but think she is too afraid of flatlander syndrom

It is from Snuffy Smith comic strip, they refer to people not from the area aka cityfolk as flatlanders
